Amos was a three-star recruit in the class of 2020 who stayed in-state to play for Louisiana to start his college career. He had one interception in 2020, then had five passes defended in 2021. For the 2022 season, he registered 35 total tackles and eight passes defended. His play helped the Ragin’ Cajuns win six games that season. He transferred to Ole Miss in 2023 and amassed 12 tackles and five passes defended. Ole Miss won 11 games that season. In 2024, Amos tallied 50 tackles, three interceptions and 13 passes defended, as the Rebels won 10 games.
Following the season, Amos declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.
Trey Amos Strengths
Amos has good size for the cornerback position. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, which is solid. His frame could be filled out a bit more so that he can add strength. With his size comes good length with over 31-inch arms. He uses his length well, as he has good press coverage and can disrupt wide receivers early in routes.
In 2024, Amos displayed great ball skills. He finished the season with three interceptions and 13 passes defended. Amos sees the ball in the air well and tracks it. He can attack the catchpoint well. Amos can come down with interceptions and passes defended winning the ball over receivers.
He is a solid athlete for the corner position. Amos has good acceleration and quickness at the start of plays. He also changes directions well with good short-area movement ability. While he won’t have blazing speed, he has solid top end speed and is capable of keeping up with most receivers.
Trey Amos Weaknesses
Amos has a tendency to be greedy in coverage. He will fall for double moves and make jumps on plays even when the ball is not coming his way. Amos needs to remain patient and improve his decision-making while in coverage. Right now, he will give up a lot of big plays because he gambles.
His eye balance in coverage could improve as well. There are times when he can get caught looking in the backfield and letting receivers separate. He at times can focus too much on his coverage and lose sight of the ball. Amos can turn his head around quicker and find the football as well.
He can give up yardage to ball carriers and pass catchers after the catch because he isn’t the best tackler. Amos misses his fair share of tackles and needs to work on having better form tackling. Even if his coverage is solid, improving his tackling will make him a better all-around player.
